2025 Spring Gorge Trip - begins...

2025 Spring Gorge Trip - Begins.

Rowena Lookout on a hot day!

Soooooo...  Louise and I have been down here for 5 days, but I didn't think it was fair to start the blog with just the two of us.

Today, I believe most of the gang are on the road, so time for the first post!

I hear there has been some wind at home with people sailing at Pigeon, Wabamun and Alberta Beach, although I don't have any photos...  I did hear that some of the sailing was in "challenging" conditions, and that Tim had broken a mast - but said no bones or boards were damaged.

Louise and I have had a good week.  The drive down was easy and we have sailed 3 days out of four so far and hope to get out again today.  Louise has had two good days, and is starting to loose her fear of the river.  She said that she has never had a good day on the river, since 1991, until this trip.  Yesterday, she had her best ever day in the Gorge foiling almost all the time, keeping upwind, and then managing to get back downwind to the beach at the end of her session!  Funny how staying upwind is an issue at first, and then once you find it easy to go upwind, going downwind becomes scary and difficult!  Anyway, she managed it!

We have been in the middle of a heat wave, with Temperatures reaching 37c (100f).  Wow - blast furnace.

We did manage a nice ride on the Historic Highway to the Rowena Lookout on Sunday morning.  It was a very calm day, but also hot.  Fortunately we were early enough that it was manageable.  There is lots of fire damage on the trail, but it is still spectacular, and the contrast between some of the burned out trees and the lush green undergrowth can be beautiful.

We also enjoyed a flight of various wines at the Granier Vineyard, sitting in the shade with a nice breeze, looking out over their vineyard and the Columbia.  Again, Spectacular - it doesn't get old.

It has been a great trip so far.  I will drive Louise to Portland in the morning so she can fly home in time for her dad's 89th birthday.

I am looking forward to the gang arriving tomorrow night!  I think the timing is great, the forecast is for a windy stretch for the rest of the week and into next week with winds around 30mph or more.

Safe Travels everyone!
